Crews From Across Canada, United States Help Battle Alberta Wildfires

Firefighters from Yukon, BC, Ontario and Quebec have arrived in Alberta to help crews battling 81 wildfires.

And the province says crews are also expected to fly in from New Brunswick, Oregon and Alaska. There is no word from Newfoundland and Labrador yet on whether we will be sending help.

The fire danger remains extreme in most of the province and after a period of cooler temperatures and light rain, the forecast is calling for a return to hot and windy conditions.

Scott Mitchell, who is with our sister Stingray station in Alberta, says this is a far different situation than they faced in Fort MacMurray in 2016.

He says they basically wen from winter to summer with nothing in between. And they did not get much moisture over the winter so everything is very dry and a fire can easily start.
